Walking
Start from the centre of Dingle town. Head towards the Dingle Harbour, and as you walk along the waterfront, look for signs directing you towards the Valentia Island ferry. Continue walking until you reach the ferry terminal, which is located at the end of the harbor area. Board the ferry, which will take you across to Valentia Island. Once you arrive at the island, follow the signs to the main road, and then take a left onto the N70. Continue on the N70, watching for signs that direct you to Slate and the Quarry Road. After approximately 5 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to Slate Quarry Road, where The Grotto is located.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local shops in Dingle. Start at the centre of Dingle town and head towards the harbor. Follow the same route as for walking, heading to the ferry terminal. After taking the ferry to Valentia Island, cycle along the N70 road. Keep an eye out for signage that points to Slate and the Quarry Road. The Grotto is about 5 kilometers from the ferry landing. The ride is enjoyable with scenic views of the countryside.
Public Transport
From the centre of Dingle, find the local bus stop near the town square. Look for the bus service that goes to Valentia Island. Purchase a ticket from the driver. The bus will take you to the ferry terminal, where you will disembark and board the ferry to Valentia Island. Upon arrival, you will need to either walk or bike to Slate Quarry Road. The Grotto is around 5 kilometers from the ferry landing, so be sure to check local transport schedules for return trips.
