Car
If you're driving, start from Donegal Town and head northwest on the N15. After approximately 12 kilometers, take the exit for the N56 towards Killybegs. Continue on the N56 for about 25 kilometers until you reach the town of Killybegs. From there, turn onto the R263 towards Kilcar. After about 6 kilometers, take a right onto the R230, which will lead you towards Saint John's Point. Continue straight for approximately 5 kilometers until you see signs for the lighthouse. There is limited parking available near the lighthouse, and be sure to check for any parking fees that may apply.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, take a bus from Donegal Town to Killybegs. Bus Eireann operates services on this route, and the journey typically takes around 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Killybegs, you can catch a local taxi to take you directly to Saint John's Point, which is about a 10-minute ride. Make sure to check the local bus and taxi schedules in advance to ensure you have a smooth trip.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and are staying in the nearby area, you can walk to Saint John's Point from the surrounding villages. From Kilcar, it's about a 6-kilometer walk to the lighthouse along scenic coastal paths. Just follow the R230 road, and keep an eye out for signs directing you to the lighthouse. Ensure you wear comfortable walking shoes and check the weather conditions before you set out.
