Getting There

Walking
From the center of Kinsale, start at the Kinsale Tourist Office on the main street. Head south towards the marina, following the signs for 'Old Fort'. Continue along the waterfront, enjoying the views of the harbor. After about 10 minutes, you will reach the end of the marina. At this point, look for a sign pointing towards 'Castlepark Peninsula'. Follow this path which will lead you uphill towards the fort. As you walk, keep to the left side of the path, and after around 15 minutes, you will see the entrance to James Fort Blockhouse on your right. The fort is located at the end of Castlepark Peninsula.

Bicycle
If you have access to a bicycle, you can rent one from a local shop in Kinsale. Start from the town center and cycle south towards the marina. Continue along the waterfront path, which is suitable for cycling. After about 10 minutes, you will see signs directing you towards Castlepark Peninsula. Follow this path uphill, and after approximately 15 minutes, you will arrive at the entrance to James Fort Blockhouse on your right. Ensure you ride carefully, as some parts may be steep.

While there is no direct public transport to James Fort Blockhouse, you can take a local bus that heads towards Castlepark. Start at the Kinsale Bus Stop and board the bus heading to the Castlepark area. Inform the driver you would like to stop at Castlepark. Upon disembarking, walk towards the direction of the Old Fort, following the path that leads uphill. After about a 10-minute walk, you will reach James Fort Blockhouse.
