History of Ir Yamim

From Coastal Edge to Planned District

Before its residential development, the Ir Yamim area was part of Netanya’s southern coastal fringe, a landscape of open land shaped by the wider agricultural and suburban growth of the Sharon plain. It did not develop as an old village quarter with a historic street grid. Instead, its later identity emerged through large-scale planning that extended Netanya towards the sea and southwards beyond the established centre. The area’s location beside the Mediterranean made coastal views and access to the beach central considerations in its development, while nearby Poleg remained associated with open dunes, wetlands and low-density surroundings.

Construction of a New Neighbourhood

Ir Yamim took shape mainly during the twenty-first century as a planned residential district, with apartment towers, landscaped public areas, roads and local commercial facilities replacing much of the previously open character of the site.
