Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Mareo. Head northwest on Strada Statale 244 towards Alpe di Fanes. Continue driving until you reach the parking area near Alpe di Fanes, where you can park your car. There is a small fee for parking, typically around €5 per day. From the parking area, follow the marked hiking trail towards Rifugio Lavarella, which is approximately a 1.5-hour hike uphill.
Public Transportation
To reach Rifugio Lavarella using public transportation, take a train to the nearest major train station, which is Brunico. From Brunico, take a local bus towards Mareo. Alight at the Mareo stop. From there, you can either walk to the parking area near Alpe di Fanes or take a taxi if you prefer not to hike. The bus fare from Brunico to Mareo is around €3. Once at the parking area, follow the marked trail to Rifugio Lavarella, which is approximately a 1.5-hour hike.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Mareo to the Alpe di Fanes parking area. The taxi fare may vary, but expect to pay around €20-€30 for the ride. After arriving at the parking area, follow the hiking trail to Rifugio Lavarella, which takes about 1.5 hours.
