    If you are starting from the central Piazza del Comune, head southeast towards Via Santa Chiara. Continue straight down Via Santa Chiara until you reach the intersection with Via San Francesco. Turn left onto Via San Francesco and continue until you reach the end of the street. There, you will find the Basilica di San Francesco. From the Basilica, take the path leading down towards the lower part of Assisi, which will take you through Via della Rocca. As you walk, follow the signs towards Porta Romana. After about 15 minutes of walking, you will start to see the ancient walls of Assisi. Continue straight, and you will arrive at Porta Romana, which serves as an entrance to the historic center of the town.
