A Legacy Rooted in Volcanic Terroir

Cantine Tornatore represents over 160 years of winemaking excellence on the northern slopes of Europe's most active volcano. The Tornatore family began cultivating grapes and producing wine in 1865, establishing deep roots in Castiglione di Sicilia. In 1910, Giuseppe Tornatore constructed a traditional palmento (stone wine press) with adjacent vineyards, laying the foundation for what would become the largest vineyard within the Etna DOC production zone. Today, under the personal direction of Francesco Tornatore, the winery continues this family tradition while embracing contemporary techniques and sustainable practices.

The Unique Volcanic Landscape

The winery's 46-hectare vineyard extends across the fertile volcanic slopes at altitudes ranging from 550 to 700 meters above sea level. The combination of nutrient-rich volcanic soil, the tempering influence of the Nebrodi mountains, and the cool mountain climate creates ideal conditions for producing wines of exceptional quality and mineral intensity. The terroir imparts distinctive characteristics to every vintage, with brilliant acidity and remarkable depth that reflect the unique geology of this UNESCO-recognized wine region.

Native Grape Varieties and Winemaking Excellence

Cantine Tornatore cultivates exclusively native Sicilian grape varieties as prescribed by Etna DOC regulations. Red varieties include Nerello Mascalese and Nero Cappuccio, while white varieties comprise Carricante and Catarratto. The winery employs a single cordon training system with 3 to 4 spurs per vine, and all grape selection and harvesting is performed manually to ensure optimal quality. The resulting wines showcase the elegance and complexity characteristic of Etna's finest expressions, with each bottle serving as a tribute to the land and its enological traditions.

Sustainable Production and Innovation

The winery operates with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, utilizing renewable energy sources throughout production and bottling operations.
