If you're starting from the historic center of Genoa, head towards Via Garibaldi. Walk northwest until you reach Piazza Fontane Marose. From there, continue straight onto Via di Porta Soprana and follow it. After about 10 minutes, you will reach Piazza Caricamento, where you can find the beautiful waterfront.
