Discover more about Fontana con sculture

The Fontana con Sculture, located in Lucca, is a striking tourist attraction adorned with sculptures that narrate tales of mythology and history. This exquisite fountain serves as a serene spot to relax and appreciate the beauty of its surroundings. The craftsmanship of the sculptures showcases artistry passed down through generations, inviting visitors to admire the skill involved in their creation. The fountain, built between 1838 and 1840 and inaugurated in 1842, was designed by Lorenzo Nottolini and sculpted by Luigi Camolli. The statue on top of the fountain is the Naiade, a water nymph figure from Greek mythology. The fountain also features a large, bathtub-like marble basin decorated with lion heads. Locals often visit the fountain to collect fresh water from the hills beyond Lucca, claiming it tastes better than tap or bottled water. Known by locals as "La Pupporona" (The Busty One) because of her exposed breast, the statue once scandalized a bishop who tried to have it removed. Fortunately, he did not succeed, and the fountain remains a beloved landmark and gathering spot in Lucca.
