Discover more about Villa Torrigiani

Nestled in the rolling hills of Capannori, Villa Torrigiani stands as one of the most impressive villas in the Lucca area. The villa's history dates back to the 16th century when it was owned by the Buonvisi family. In the 17th century, Marquis Nicolao Santini, ambassador of the Republic of Lucca to the court of Louis XIV, acquired the property and transformed it into a magnificent estate reminiscent of Versailles. The villa's architecture is notable for its multi-colored facade, achieved through the use of grey stone, yellow tuff, white marble statues, and ochre plaster. The main facade features a grand staircase leading to a serliana, adorned with statues. Inside, visitors can admire frescoes by Pietro Scorzini and original furnishings. The gardens at Villa Torrigiani are a highlight, blending French and English styles. The 'Garden of Flora' features a grotto with water features and a double staircase leading to a lemon garden. The grounds also include a fish pond, a Temple of Arcadia, and the Tower of Baccani, which once served as an observatory. A long avenue of cypress trees, nearly one kilometer in length, leads to the villa, creating a dramatic approach. Today, Villa Torrigiani is still owned by descendants of the Torrigiani family. While the interior is not always open to the public, visitors can explore the gardens and admire the villa's stunning architecture.
