Founded in the 4th century, the basilica has evolved through various restorations, reflecting different eras. Its origins are linked to Eustorgius I, the Bishop of Milan, who brought the relics of the Three Magi to the city in 344 AD. For centuries, it served as a vital stop for pilgrims journeying to Rome or the Holy Land.Today's basilica showcases a blend of architectural styles due to numerous restorations over the centuries. Remnants of an early Christian church can be seen beneath the apse, while the apsidal area and some capitals reveal Romanesque elements. The bell tower, erected between 1297 and 1309, is the tallest in Milan and is adorned with a star, symbolizing the Magi. Inside, the basilica features remarkable paintings and sculptures along the nave. Noteworthy are the chapels, including the Brivio Chapel, the Magi Chapel, and the Visconti Chapel.
