The Villa Reale di Monza, also known as the Royal Palace of Monza, is a magnificent neoclassical palace constructed between 1777 and 1780. Empress Maria Theresa of Austria commissioned it as a summer residence for her son, Archduke Ferdinand of Habsburg, Governor General of Austrian Lombardy. The villa's location at the foot of the Brianza hills was chosen for its beauty and strategic position on the Milan-Vienna route. The architect Giuseppe Piermarini designed the U-shaped structure in the neoclassical style, drawing inspiration from the Royal Palace of Caserta.
