Turn right onto Largo Giuseppe Mazzini, then left onto Via Alessandro Manzoni. Continue onto Via Italia, then turn again onto Via Carlo Alberto. Turn left onto Via Napoleone and continue straight. At the roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Viale Regina Margherita. The Villa Reale will be on your right. Walking is free and allows you to see more of Monza's city center.

The Villa Reale di Monza, also known as the Royal Palace of Monza, is a magnificent neoclassical palace constructed between 1777 and 1780. Empress Maria Theresa of Austria commissioned it as a summer residence for her son, Archduke Ferdinand of Habsburg, Governor General of Austrian Lombardy. The villa's location at the foot of the Brianza hills was chosen for its beauty and strategic position on the Milan-Vienna route.The architect Giuseppe Piermarini designed the U-shaped structure in the neoclassical style, drawing inspiration from the Royal Palace of Caserta. The palace boasts nearly seven hundred rooms, adorned with stuccoes, frescoes, paintings, and luxurious tapestries. Notable rooms include the Hall of Birds, the Ballroom, and the octagonal Atrio degli Staffieri. Visitors can explore the first noble floor, the representation rooms, and the private apartments of the Sovereigns Umberto I and Margherita.The Villa Reale is surrounded by extensive gardens spanning approximately 40 hectares. These English-style gardens feature a lake, a rock garden, the Cave of Polyphemus, and a classical temple. The Monza Park, one of the largest enclosed parks in Europe, further enhances the villa's appeal.Over the centuries, the Villa Reale has served various purposes. During the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy, it became a royal palace for Viceroy Eugène de Beauharnais. Later, it served as a residence for the Italian Royal House of Savoy.
