Quintino Sella Refuge: A High-Altitude Haven in the Aosta Valley

Experience high-alpine adventure at the historic Quintino Sella Refuge, a gateway to Monte Rosa's majestic peaks in the Aosta Valley.

4.6

The Quintino Sella Refuge, named after the founder of the Italian Alpine Club, Quintino Sella, is a testament to the enduring allure of the mountains. The original wooden hut, built in 1885, was a modest structure that could accommodate about 15 people. Over the years, it has been expanded and modernized to host up to 142 mountaineers. The refuge stands on a rocky plateau, providing immediate access to the challenging peaks of Castor, Polluce, and the Lyskamm. The refuge complex comprises three buildings: the main hut, an outer structure housing bathrooms, and the partially restructured "old Quintino Sella Hut," which serves as winter accommodation and storage. Inside the main building, you'll find a large entrance for equipment storage, a restaurant, and a bar. The upper floors offer dormitory-style accommodation with both single and bunk beds. The final approach to the refuge involves a thrilling hike along a ridge equipped with fixed ropes and handrails. The panoramic views of the Verra Glacier and the surrounding peaks are a just reward for the effort. The refuge is not only a place to rest but also a place to experience the camaraderie of mountaineers from around the world.
