Getting There

• Bus

  From Montepulciano, head to the main bus terminal located at Piazza della Libertà. Purchase a ticket to Foiano della Chiana at the ticket counter or using the self-service machines. Buses to Foiano della Chiana typically run every hour. Make sure to check the schedule posted at the terminal for exact times. Once on the bus, enjoy the scenic ride, which should take about 30 minutes. Get off at the stop closest to Corso Vittorio Emanuele, which is a short walk from the carnival site.

• Train and Bus

  Walk to the Montepulciano train station, which is approximately 15 minutes from the town center. Purchase a train ticket to the nearest major station, which is in Chiusi. Once you arrive in Chiusi, transfer to a local bus heading to Foiano della Chiana. Check the bus schedule at the Chiusi station for the next departure. The bus ride from Chiusi to Foiano will take around 20 minutes. Get off at Corso Vittorio Emanuele, which is where the Carnival is located.

• Walking and Local Transport

  If you prefer to enjoy the Tuscan countryside, you can take a scenic walk from Montepulciano to Foiano della Chiana. The distance is about 10 kilometers, which will take approximately 2-3 hours on foot. Start by following the SP88 road south from Montepulciano. Alternatively, you can also ask locals if there are any bike rentals available to cover the distance more quickly. Once you reach Foiano, follow the signs toward Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where the carnival festivities will be taking place.
