Walking

Pienza Cathedral is located in the heart of Pienza, in Piazza Pio II, making it easily accessible on foot from anywhere within the town. From Corso Rossellino, the main street, simply follow signs for Piazza Pio II. The cathedral dominates the south side of the square, opposite Palazzo Borgia.

Public Transport

If arriving by bus, the nearest bus stop is 'Pienza N. Insediamento', a short 4-minute walk to the cathedral. From the bus stop, walk along Viale Cesare Battisti towards the town center, then turn left onto Corso Rossellino and follow it to Piazza Pio II. Bus line 112 connects Pienza with Siena and Montepulciano. A single bus ticket from Siena to Pienza costs approximately €4-€6.

Parking

If arriving by car, parking is available outside the city walls. Paid parking lots are located on Viale Mario Mencattelli and Via del Cassello. From the parking lots, it's a short walk to the town center and Piazza Pio II. Parking costs approximately €1-€2 per hour. Free parking is available at Via della Madonnina, a 7-minute walk to Pienza.

The Pienza Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, is a captivating landmark in the heart of Pienza, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Commissioned by Pope Pius II, born Enea Silvio Piccolomini, the cathedral was designed by Bernardo Rossellino and consecrated in 1462. It embodies the Pope's vision of transforming his birthplace, Corsignano, into an ideal Renaissance city.The cathedral's exterior showcases a harmonious blend of Renaissance and Gothic elements. The travertine facade, inspired by Leon Battista Alberti's classical style, features a simple yet imposing structure divided by pilasters.
