Public Transport
From Naples, take the Circumvesuviana train towards Sorrento and disembark at either Ercolano Scavi or Pompei Scavi station. From Ercolano Scavi or Pompei Scavi, buses or shuttle services will take you closer to the Vesuvius crater. A round trip bus ticket including the entrance to the park is about EUR 22. Alternatively, the Vesuvio Express bus runs from Naples to Mount Vesuvius for EUR 40. From the parking area, a shuttle service is available for EUR 2 round trip to the ticket office. From the ticket office, the final ascent to the crater is on foot.
Car
From Naples, take the A3 Napoli-Salerno highway and exit at Torre del Greco or Ercolano. Follow the signs for Vesuvio. There is a parking area at 800 meters above sea level, costing EUR 5 for all-day parking. From the parking area, a shuttle service is available for EUR 2 round trip to the ticket office. Purchase parking tickets online in advance. The final ascent to the crater is on foot and requires an entrance ticket to the crater, which costs EUR 10 for adults.
