Discover more about Palazzo Marigliano

Palazzo Marigliano, also known as Palazzo di Capua, is a magnificent Renaissance palace located on Via San Biagio dei Librai, one of the most ancient and captivating streets in Naples. Constructed between 1512 and 1513 by Giovanni Francesco Mormando for Bartolomeo di Capua, Prince of Riccia, it exemplifies Neapolitan Renaissance architecture. The palace's facade showcases three tiers resting on a piperno stone base. Arched windows, supported by architectural pillars and adorned with marble cornices, embellish the structure. The interior features a captivating courtyard with a two-story loggia, complete with elegant arches and columns reminiscent of classical architecture. Inside, the noble rooms boast frescoes and stuccoes, with works by the Mannerist painter Francesco Curia. Throughout its history, Palazzo Marigliano has been home to several noble families and has undergone various modifications. In the 18th century, the Marigliano family acquired the palace, adding Baroque decorations that blend harmoniously with the Renaissance style. The palace also holds historical significance as it was visited by Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1860 and was the site of the Macchia Plot, a conspiracy against the kingdom's rulers in 1701. Today, the palace houses the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendence of Campania, preserving the region's historical records.
