The name 'Granatello' comes from pomegranate trees that once grew along the shore.Commissioned by Charles III of Bourbon, the port was initially conceived as a maritime defense structure to protect against sea attacks. Over time, it evolved into a royal landing for the Bourbon court and later a commercial port. In 1773, Ferdinand IV expanded it into a small port with two piers.
