The Teatro Augusteo replaced a pre-existing theater built in 1772 by Luigi Vanvitelli within the Berio Palace. This earlier theater, featuring a circular layout, could accommodate up to 1,600 spectators. During World War II, the Teatro Augusteo was closed, and when it reopened in the 1950s, renovations altered its appearance and acoustics. For many years, it served as a cinema. A significant architectural restoration began in 1992, returning the theater to its original form. The theater has a circular structure with a diameter of 30 meters and a retractable ceiling. It is equipped with modern amenities such as escalators, elevators, air conditioning, and a sliding central skylight.
