The valley owes its name to the flour mills that were built as far back as the 13th century. These mills were once a vital part of Sorrento's economy, grinding grain for the local population. A sawmill and public washhouse also operated in the valley, serving the community's needs. In 1866, the construction of Piazza Tasso led to the valley's isolation and a radical transformation of the site. The mills were abandoned in the 1940s. Today, the Vallone dei Mulini is a unique ecosystem where nature reclaims its territory. The ruins, covered in ivy and surrounded by lush greenery, create an otherworldly scene. The valley is home to rare plant species that thrive in the humid microclimate. Although entry is restricted to preserve the site, visitors can admire the view from above near Piazza Tasso and Via Fuorimura.
