Discover more about Palazzo Butera

Palazzo Butera, located in Bagheria, stands as a testament to Sicily's rich history and artistic heritage. The palace dates back to 1692 when the Branciforti family, commissioned Giacomo Amato, a Palermo Baroque architect, to construct a new residence. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, it was a hub for Palermo's aristocracy, hosting lavish events and housing spectacular frescoes and paintings by celebrated artists. Over the years, the palace underwent several expansions and renovations, including the addition of a large terrace overlooking the sea in 1737. In 1760, the adjacent Palazzo Moncada was incorporated, creating a grand ballroom. However, by the mid-20th century, Palazzo Butera faced decline and neglect due to financial difficulties. In 2015, Massimo and Francesca Valsecchi acquired the palace and began a major restoration project, transforming it into a unique space that blends Sicilian Baroque architecture with contemporary art. Today, visitors can explore the palace's historic halls, admire the art collection, and enjoy panoramic views from the terrace. The palace also serves as a research center and a venue for cultural events, revitalizing Palermo's Kalsa neighborhood.
