If you are starting from the Piazza della Cisterna, head southwest towards Via San Giovanni. Walk down Via San Giovanni, which is a beautiful street lined with shops and cafes. Continue straight for about 5 minutes until you reach the intersection with Via delle Erbe. Keep walking straight; you will notice the walls of San Gimignano on your left. Continue until you reach Porta San Giovanni, which will be visible as you approach the city gates.

From the Collegiata di San Gimignano, exit the church and turn left onto Via San Giovanni. Walk straight for about 10 minutes. You will pass several historic buildings and shops. As you walk, you will see the ancient city walls on your left. Continue until you reach Porta San Giovanni, where you will enter through the historic city gate.

Starting from the San Gimignano train station, head southeast on Via della Storia towards the town center. Follow the signs leading you to the historic center.
