Walking

From the main square in San Gimignano, Piazza della Cisterna, head southwest towards Via San Giovanni. Walk down Via San Giovanni until you reach the intersection with Via delle Fonti. Turn right onto Via delle Fonti and continue walking straight. As you proceed, you will eventually reach Via Roma. Cross over to Via Roma and keep walking straight, following the signs leading to Volterra. You will be walking for about 30 minutes. Once you reach the edge of San Gimignano, there will be a sign indicating the direction to Volterra. Continue on the path marked towards Volterra. After approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes of walking, you will arrive in Volterra. The Roman Theatre is located at Piazza Caduti nei Lager Nazisti, which is a short walk from the main road you entered Volterra on.
Bus

From San Gimignano, head to the bus station located near the entrance of the city at Via Roma. Check the bus schedule for routes heading to Volterra. Once you find the correct platform, board the bus that is heading to Volterra. The bus ride will take about 50 minutes. Make sure to get off at the stop for Piazza Caduti nei Lager Nazisti. From the bus stop, the Roman Theatre is a short 5-minute walk away; just follow the signs or ask locals for directions if needed.
