Perched on the rugged cliffs of Negril's West End, the West End Lighthouse has been a beacon of maritime history and natural beauty since 1894. Built by the French company Bubbler & Bernard, this iconic structure guides sailors and offers visitors stunning panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.The lighthouse, with its whitewashed stone and classic design, stands approximately 30 meters (98 feet) above sea level. Originally powered by kerosene, it transitioned to acetylene in 1956 and solar energy in 1985. The tower is built inland on a 14-foot deep tank filled with water to keep it balanced and secured during earthquakes.While the lighthouse itself may not always be open for climbing, the surrounding area offers much to explore. Visitors can stroll along the cliffside paths, discover vantage points for photography, and capture memorable sunsets. The West End is also known for its cliff-side restaurants and bars, where you can sample Jamaican dishes and refreshing cocktails.
