Discover more about Blue lagoon tour with Illis

Nestled amidst lush greenery seven miles east of Port Antonio, the Blue Lagoon is a must-see destination renowned for its captivating beauty. Once called the 'Blue Hole,' its name was changed following the popularity of the Brooke Shields film 'The Blue Lagoon,' although the movie wasn't filmed here. The lagoon's enchanting turquoise waters change in hue throughout the day, shifting from turquoise to sapphire and deep blue depending on the sun's angle. Originally thought to be bottomless, divers have determined the lagoon's depth to be approximately 180 feet. The lagoon is fed by both warm Caribbean seawater and cool freshwater springs, creating a unique and refreshing swimming experience. Visitors can feel the contrasting temperatures as they explore the lagoon. Boat tours are available, offering a ride past seafront villas to nearby Cocktail Beach and Monkey Island. While a restaurant once graced the lagoon's banks, it was closed after sustaining damage from Hurricane Ivan. Despite this, local vendors offer handcrafted items, drinks, and freshly caught fish. The Blue Lagoon was declared a National Monument in August 2018.
