It even had a dedicated caretaker, known as the "Keeper of the Creek," who managed the water distribution. Even after the introduction of a piped water system in 1893, many locals continued to rely on The Dome for their water supply.The discovery of the spring itself is tied to local legend. It is said that two young girls, one Spanish and one a slave, were searching for crabs when they found a stone that led to the discovery of the bubbling creek. The creek was initially named El Rio Camarones (River of Crabs).Today, The Dome stands as a monument to Montego Bay's history.
