Discover more about MILK RIVER HOTEL & Mineral SPA

The Milk River Hotel & Mineral Spa, a national heritage site managed by the Ministry of Tourism, offers a unique and historic retreat on Jamaica's south coast. Established in 1794, the spa is famous for its mineral waters, which are among the most radioactive in the world, boasting higher mineral content than many renowned European spas. The spa's history dates back to the 18th century when a slave, seeking refuge from brutal beatings, discovered a spring that healed his wounds. His master, Jonathan Ludford, astonished by the healing, later donated the land, leading to the construction of public baths. Today, the hotel offers simple but comfortable accommodations, with 20 bedrooms, a restaurant serving authentic Jamaican cuisine, and most importantly, access to the therapeutic mineral baths. The main attraction is the set of nine mosaic-tiled private baths, each fed by a continuous flow of lukewarm mineral water. Soaking in these waters is believed to alleviate conditions such as rheumatism, gout, neuralgia, sciatica, and liver disorders. Visitors are advised to limit their soaks to 15 minutes due to the water's high mineral concentration. The spa also features an outdoor mineral pool and offers hydrotherapy, cosmetic treatments, and massage services.
