Discover more about Lyssons Beach

Lyssons Beach, nestled on Jamaica's southeast coast in the parish of St. Thomas, presents a tranquil alternative to the bustling beaches of Montego Bay and Negril. This hidden gem boasts a 323-meter stretch of fine, brown sand embraced by calm, crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming and wading. The absence of seagrass in the immediate swimming area enhances the experience, while coral reefs lie a short distance offshore. Lyssons Beach provides a welcoming atmosphere for families and individuals alike. Visitors can relax under the shade of trees, enjoy a picnic at designated spots, or engage in beach football. The beach is well-maintained and equipped with newly renovated facilities, including showers, bathrooms, changing rooms, benches, tables, and gazebos. Originally named after Nicholas Lycence, a member of the Jamaican Assembly in the 17th century, the area was once part of the Lyssons Estate, a sugar plantation owned by Simon Taylor, one of the wealthiest men in the British Empire. Today, Lyssons Beach stands as a testament to the natural beauty and community spirit of St. Thomas, offering a peaceful retreat and a chance to connect with Jamaica's coastal charm. The beach was upgraded in 2015 as part of the Tourism Enhancement Fund's Beaches Upgrading Programme. Nearby attractions include Reggae Falls, Roselle Falls, Bath Fountain Hotel and Spa, and Morant Point Lighthouse.
