Kayotei: A Sanctuary of Tradition and Luxury in Yamanaka Onsen
Experience refined Japanese hospitality at Kayotei, a luxurious ryokan in Yamanaka Onsen, surrounded by nature and artistry.
Kayotei is a celebrated ryokan located in Yamanaka Onsen, a hot spring village with a rich history dating back 1300 years. This exclusive inn features just ten suites crafted in the traditional sukiya style, reminiscent of a tea ceremony pavilion. The ryokan harmoniously blends antique tansu chests, polished oak tables, hand-painted screens, and ceramic art with modern sculptural designs. Guests can immerse themselves in the therapeutic onsen (hot springs), with indoor communal baths offering panoramic views of the surrounding forests. The inn prides itself on its kaiseki cuisine, a multi-course Japanese haute cuisine that emphasizes local seafood and seasonal ingredients. Kayotei also maintains strong ties to the local artisan community, showcasing Yamanaka lacquerware and other regional crafts. Guests can even visit the ateliers of local artisans to witness their craft firsthand. The inn's location in Yamanaka Onsen allows for exploration of the scenic Kakusenkei Gorge, a natural wonder with walking trails, unique bridges like the Ayatori Bridge, and riverside cafes. The area is also known for its cultural heritage, including geisha performances and the Yamanaka-bushi folk song.
