Discover more about Site of Yotsubashi

The Site of Yotsubashi is a historical landmark in Osaka, commemorating the location where four bridges once intersected over the Horikawa River. These bridges, collectively known as Yotsubashi (literally 'four bridges'), were crucial for transportation in the area, facilitating the movement of people and goods via roads, canals, and later, railways. The original bridges were constructed shortly after the Horikawa River was excavated in 1622. Initially, they were simple pontoon bridges, but by 1881, records indicate they had been strengthened and widened. Unfortunately, one of the bridges was lost in the flood of 1845. Over time, the Hori River was reclaimed, and the bridges disappeared. Today, the name Yotsubashi lives on as the name of an intersection and the Yotsubashi Station on the Osaka Municipal Subway Yotsubashi Line, which was completed in 1965. While the physical bridges are gone, the Site of Yotsubashi remains a notable spot in Osaka, often featured in tourist photos and postcards. Nearby attractions include America Mura and Horie, known for their trendy shops and youthful atmosphere. Horie Park offers a relaxing space with cafes, while America Mura's Sankaku Park is famous for its Kogaryu takoyaki.
