The 空中庭園 (Kūchū Teien), or Floating Garden Observatory, is a stunning architectural achievement and a must-see attraction in Osaka. Located on the rooftop of the Umeda Sky Building, it offers visitors unparalleled panoramic views of the city skyline. Completed in 1993, the Umeda Sky Building itself is a landmark, consisting of two 40-story towers connected at their summit by the Floating Garden.
The observatory provides a 360-degree open-air experience, allowing visitors to feel the city breeze while taking in the sights. During the day, you can see landmarks like Osaka Castle, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, and the surrounding mountains. At night, the 'Lumi-Sky Walk' illuminates with glowing stones, creating a magical, stargazing-like atmosphere.
Inside, the 40th floor features a gallery exploring humanity's dreams of reaching the sky, from ancient ziggurats to modern skyscrapers. You'll also find 'cafe SKY 40', where you can enjoy refreshments while taking in the views. The 39th floor houses the UMEDA SKYBLDG GALLERY SHOP, offering unique souvenirs. The journey to the top is also an experience, with a see-through elevator and escalator offering stunning views.

Getting There
Walking
From JR Osaka Station, exit the '連絡橋口' (連絡橋口) gate and head right towards the '中央北口' (Central North Exit). Take the escalator down in front of the LUCUA entrance and walk in the direction where you can see the Umeda Sky Building. The walk is approximately 10 minutes.
Public Transport
From Osaka Metro Umeda Station, take the B1F exit 5. Use the elevator at exit 5 to go to the 1st floor. From there, walk towards the Umeda Sky Building, which is about a 10-minute walk. Subway fare is typically around ¥180-¥300 depending on the distance.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available from most major transportation hubs in Osaka. A short taxi ride from Osaka Station to Umeda Sky Building will typically cost between ¥700-¥1000, depending on traffic.
