Yurigahara Park: A Floral Oasis in Sapporo

Yurigahara Park, located in Sapporo's Kita Ward, is a sprawling 25.4-hectare park that offers a tranquil escape into a world of diverse flora. Established in 1983, the park was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Showa's reign and was initially named Tohoku Park. The park's design was conceptualized by the Faculty of Agriculture of Hokkaido University. The park is renowned for its seasonal flower displays, featuring approximately 6,400 plant species. Lilies are a park symbol, with around 100 varieties showcased in the World Lily Square from late June to late August. Other highlights include lilacs, tulips, roses, dahlias, and a rock garden with alpine plants. In spring, Muscari Road becomes a carpet of blue-purple muscari flowers alongside blooming tulips. The Lily Train is a popular attraction, offering a 12-minute ride through the park's scenic landscapes. The park also features a park golf course, a restaurant, and a garden shop. The Yurigahara Green Center houses a greenhouse with various indoor plants. The World Garden showcases garden designs from Sapporo's sister cities. Visitors can explore the Lilac Walk, a 650-meter path lined with lilac trees. The park provides various facilities, including restrooms for disabled visitors, and offers wheelchair rentals.
