Shinobazunoike Benten-do: A Tranquil Temple in Ueno Park

Shinobazunoike Benten-do, nestled in the southern part of Ueno Park, is a Buddhist temple dedicated to Benzaiten, one of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods. This octagonal temple sits on an island in the middle of Shinobazu Pond, creating a picturesque scene, especially when the surrounding lotus flowers are in bloom. The temple's history dates back to the early Edo period when it was founded by the monk Tenkai, who modeled it after Hogonji Temple on Chikubu Island in Lake Biwa.
