4.1

Kanegawa-no-Mori, or Kanegawa Forest Park, is a 36-hectare natural oasis located in Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. This unique park was originally a preserved woodland area designated for disaster prevention along the Kanegawa River. Over time, it has been transformed into a recreational space where visitors can immerse themselves in nature's beauty. The park comprises six distinct wooded areas, each offering a unique experience. These include Dongrinomori (Acorn Forest) with its gentle creek and visitor center, Sakuranomori (Cherry Blossom Forest) known for its vibrant spring blooms, and Fureainomori, a spacious lawn perfect for relaxation. Other areas include Kabutomushinomori, a prime spot for nature observation, Sports-nomori, and Komorebinomori. Visitors can explore walking trails, enjoy picnics, rent bicycles, and observe local flora and fauna. The park is home to over 300 plant species and nearly 70 species of wild birds, as well as small animals and insects. Kanegawa-no-Mori also features unique attractions such as the firefly pond, tree canopy observation decks, and playground equipment. Historically, the area was managed as coppices for fuel until the advent of gas supply after World War II. In the 1970s, the area was saved from development and revived as a park in 1996. Today, it stands as a testament to the importance of preserving natural environments for public enjoyment.
