Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Mt. Fuji Station, take the Fujikyuko bus bound for Fujiyoshida, Oshino, or Yamanakako. Get off at the 'Mt. Mikuni Hiking Course Entrance' bus stop (approx. 60 minutes, 890 yen). Cross the road and follow the signs to Yamanakako Panorama-dai, a 15-minute walk to the trailhead.

  • Car

    From Yamanakako village center, head southeast on Route 138 towards Hirano. After about 5 kilometers, look for signs for Mt. Mikuni and turn left onto the access road. Continue for approximately 2 kilometers to reach the parking area near the trailhead. Parking is limited, especially during peak season.

Mt. Mikuni, located in the scenic Yamanakako area, is a rewarding climb for those seeking breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Yamanaka [i, 9]. The mountain, accessible via well-maintained trails, offers a serene hiking experience for both families and solo adventurers. The trails wind through diverse ecosystems, providing opportunities to spot native birds and other wildlife. The summit unveils stunning vistas, especially during sunrise and sunset when the sky is painted in vibrant hues. From the peak, hikers can enjoy a sweeping panorama of the surrounding lakes and distant peaks. While the shortest trail is 12km long and takes approximately 7 hours to complete, the Mikuni, Panoramadai Hiking Course, which also includes Mt. Obora and Mt. Myojin, can be completed in about 4 hours. This course starts from Kagosaka Pass, located on the south side of Yamanakako Village, and ascends to the Panoramadai viewing platform in about 30 minutes. From there, the trail continues through fields of Japanese pampas grass to Mt. Myojin, eventually reaching Mt. Mikuni, which straddles Yamanashi, Shizuoka, and Kanagawa prefectures.
