Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by heading southeast on KY-11 S from any point within the Red River Gorge Geological Area. Continue on KY-11 S for about 7 miles until you reach the intersection with KY-15 S. Turn left onto KY-15 S and drive for approximately 1.5 miles. Look for the signs for 'Princess Arch Trailhead' and turn right onto a gravel road that leads directly to the trailhead parking area. The trailhead is well-marked and should be visible shortly after turning onto the gravel road.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in this remote area, but you can take a Greyhound or local bus service to the nearest major town, which is Stanton, KY. From Stanton, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to the Princess Arch Trailhead. Be aware that this may incur extra costs, typically ranging between $20 and $40 depending on the distance and service availability. Ensure to check local transportation schedules in advance, as services may not run frequently.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking from the nearby areas is an option. If you have access to a bicycle, you can follow the same route as described for cars, cycling along KY-11 S and KY-15 S. This route is approximately 8.5 miles and will take you through scenic parts of the gorge. Ensure your bike is in good condition and bring plenty of water, as the ride can be strenuous.

• Hiking

  If you are already in the Red River Gorge area and prefer to hike, you can access the Princess Arch Trail from nearby trails. Look for the Indian Staircase or Cloudsplitter Trail and follow the signs leading towards the Princess Arch. This hike could take several hours, depending on your starting point, so plan accordingly and bring appropriate gear.
