Car
If you're traveling by car within the Red River Gorge Geological Area, start by heading towards the intersection of KY-15 and KY-77. From there, take KY-77 north for approximately 3.5 miles. You will see signs for the Red River Gorge Scenic Byway (KY-715). Turn left onto KY-715 and continue for about 2 miles. You'll reach a fork in the road; keep left to stay on Sky Bridge Road. After about 0.5 miles, you'll find a small parking area on your left. The trailhead to Star Gap Arch is right off this parking area.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited in the Red River Gorge area. However, you can take a Greyhound bus to the closest major town, which is Winchester, KY. From Winchester, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a rideshare service to get to Red River Gorge. Once in the Red River Gorge area, use the car guidance provided above to reach Star Gap Arch. Note that taxi or rideshare costs can vary, and it’s advisable to check rates in advance.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the parking area on Sky Bridge Road, follow the marked trail leading to Star Gap Arch. The hike is approximately 0.5 miles one-way and takes you through beautiful forest scenery. The trail is moderately easy, making it accessible for most visitors. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water with you.
