Walking
If you are staying within Lamu Town, the easiest way to reach the Lamu Museum is by walking. Start from Lamu Fort, which is a central landmark. Head southeast towards Faza Kenyatta Rd. Continue straight on this road for about 500 meters. The museum will be on your right-hand side. Look for the sign; it's a short but pleasant walk through the town's historic streets.
Bicycle
Renting a bicycle is a great way to explore Lamu Island. You can find rental shops near the waterfront. Once you have a bike, head towards the town center and follow the same route as described for walking: ride southeast towards Faza Kenyatta Rd. The museum is about 500 meters from Lamu Fort. This option allows you to enjoy the scenic views while getting to your destination.
Tuk-Tuk
For a quicker option, you can hire a tuk-tuk (a three-wheeled auto rickshaw) from any part of Lamu Town. Just tell the driver to take you to Lamu Museum on Faza Kenyatta Rd. The cost for this ride typically ranges from 100 to 300 Kenyan Shillings, depending on your starting point. This is a convenient choice, especially if you're traveling with luggage or in a group.
Boat (if coming from nearby islands)
If you are arriving from nearby islands like Manda Island, take a boat to Lamu Town. Once you arrive at the Lamu Jetty, exit the jetty and head straight into Lamu Town. From there, you can either walk or take a tuk-tuk to Lamu Museum on Faza Kenyatta Rd. The jetty is about 1 kilometer from the museum, so walking will take around 15-20 minutes.
