Walking
From the center of Lamu Town, head towards the Lamu Fort and the waterfront. Walk along the beach path that leads to Shela. This route will take you along the stunning coastline, and you will enjoy beautiful views of the ocean. Continue walking for approximately 30 minutes until you reach Shela village.
Boat
Alternatively, you can take a traditional dhow or motorboat from the Lamu Town jetty to Shela. The boat ride takes about 10-15 minutes and costs around 200-500 KES per person, depending on the negotiation. Once you arrive at the Shela beach, walk inland for about 10 minutes to reach the dunes.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bicycle in Lamu Town. Head towards Shela by following the sandy path that leads to the beach. The ride will take approximately 20-25 minutes, and you will need to pay around 300 KES for a bike rental for a few hours. Park your bicycle near the entrance of the dunes and walk the remaining distance.
