Getting There

  • Bicycle

    From the center of Malindi, head east on Lamu Road towards the beach. Continue straight for about 1.5 km until you reach the Malindi Marine National Park entrance. Turn left onto Sabaki Village Road, which is a dirt road that leads towards the Sabaki River. Follow this road for approximately 2 km, keeping an eye out for the signs for Sabaki River Hippo Camp & Wildlife Sanctuary on your right. The sanctuary is located at R37V+JJM, just off the road.

  • Walking

    Start from the Malindi town center, heading east on Lamu Road. Walk towards the Malindi Marine National Park entrance. Once you reach the entrance, turn left onto Sabaki Village Road. Continue walking along this road for about 2 km. You will find Sabaki River Hippo Camp & Wildlife Sanctuary on your right side at R37V+JJM. Be cautious as the road may have some uneven surfaces.

  • Tuk-tuk

    Hire a tuk-tuk from anywhere in Malindi, and inform the driver that you want to go to Sabaki River Hippo Camp & Wildlife Sanctuary. The driver will likely take you via Lamu Road, passing the Malindi Marine National Park entrance. They will then turn left onto Sabaki Village Road. It’s approximately a 15-minute ride, and the driver should be familiar with the location. You will arrive at R37V+JJM.

    You can find a Boda Boda near the main market or along Lamu Road. Tell the rider you want to go to Sabaki River Hippo Camp & Wildlife Sanctuary. They will navigate through the town towards Lamu Road and then onto Sabaki Village Road. The ride should take around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic, and you will be dropped off at R37V+JJM.
