Getting There

Car
From any point within Shaba National Reserve, head towards the main road leading to the entrance of the reserve. Follow the signs directing you towards the Mt. Ololokwe area. The mountain is located approximately 28 kilometers northeast of the reserve's main entrance. Depending on road conditions, it may take around 1 hour to reach the base of Mt. Ololokwe. Be sure to keep your vehicle fueled, as options may be limited in the area.

Public Transportation
If you are traveling by public transportation, you will need to take a matatu (shared minibus) from the nearest town, which is Nanyuki. From Nanyuki, look for a matatu heading towards Isiolo and inform the driver you want to get off at the Mt. Ololokwe junction. This ride will take approximately 1.5 hours. Once you reach the junction, you can either walk the remaining 5 kilometers to the base of Mt. Ololokwe or hire a local motorbike taxi (boda boda) for a small fee, typically around 200-300 KES.
