Discover more about Kuldiga’s Needle Tower

Kuldīga's Needle Tower is more than just a museum; it's a journey through time, housed within a distinctive industrial heritage building. Once a telegraph tower, it later became renowned as the home of the 'Meteors' needle factory, the sole such establishment in the vast Russian Empire during the 19th century. From the Tsar's Winter Palace to remote Siberian settlements, needles from Kuldīga were indispensable.Following the factory's closure in 1910, the building served as a town hospital. Today, thanks to the INTERREG Estonia-Latvia cooperation program, it has been transformed into an industrial heritage exposition. Each of the tower's four floors offers a unique exhibit: the first floor recreates a Neolithic environment, highlighting bone needles; the second explores the evolution of needles in sewing and medicine; the third delves into their use in music, art, and geography; and the fourth chronicles the history of needle manufacturing in Kuldīga and Latvia.Visitors can ascend to the roof platform for panoramic views of Kuldīga's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the picturesque Venta Valley. The museum's exhibits are interactive and engaging for all ages, with knowledgeable staff available to answer questions. Note that the tower can accommodate a limited number of visitors at a time, and the roof platform is only accessible in good weather.
