Walking

If you are in Liepāja city center near Rose Square (Rožu laukums), head south on Lielā iela until you reach Krasta iela. Turn right onto Krasta iela and continue for approximately 2 kilometers. Artillery Battery No. 3 will be on your left. This walk takes approximately 30 minutes.

Public Transport

From the Liepāja Central Bus Station, take bus number 4 towards 'Karosta'. Get off at the 'Krasta iela' stop. Head east along Krasta iela for about 500 meters. The Artillery Battery No. 3 will be on your right. A single ride ticket purchased from the driver costs EUR 1.50. Tickets purchased in advance via the “Liepājas pilsēta” app cost EUR 0.90. A day ticket costs EUR 3.00.

Taxi

From Liepāja city center, a taxi to Artillery Battery No. 3 will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Taxi services available include Atradums M (+371 24 666 766), Taxi Tesla Liepāja (+371 24 666 766), and Bolt Taxi (via app). The estimated cost is EUR 5-10.

From the center of Liepāja, head east on Jāņa iela towards Zivju iela. After about 1 km, turn left onto Rīgas iela (A11). Continue for approximately 3 km, then take the exit towards Krasta iela. Follow Krasta iela for about 2 km until you reach Artillery Battery No. 3, which will be on your right. There is ample parking at the North Pier. Paid parking lots are available in Liepāja for EUR 0.50 per hour, typically with free parking on Sundays and holidays.

Artillery Battery No. 3, located on Krasta iela in Liepāja, Latvia, is a significant historical landmark and a testament to the city's military past. Constructed in the early 1900s as part of the Liepāja Sea Fortress, the battery formed a crucial element of the city's coastal defense system. Its primary task was to protect the outpost from the north in case of enemy naval attacks.The battery was equipped with platforms for various heavy guns, including 6-inch Canet system guns and 11-inch guns. However, in 1915, as the army of Tsarist Russia retreated, the battery was blown up to prevent its capture. Over time, the sea has further eroded the structure, creating a unique and visually striking landscape.Today, visitors can explore the ruins of Artillery Battery No. 3, wandering through the remains of its robust walls and strategic vantage points. The site offers a palpable sense of history, echoing the stories of those who once manned its defenses. The location also provides stunning views of the Baltic Sea, making it a popular spot for photographers and those seeking a peaceful retreat. A symbolic memorial site for the Kurelians, a unit of Latvian soldiers during World War II, has been established here.
