Getting There

Car

From the center of Bsharri, head north on the main road towards Bsharri Mountain. Follow the signs for the Kahlil Gibran Museum. The museum is located at the base of the mountain. There is a small parking area near the museum. Parking is free.
Public Transportation

From the main bus station in Bsharri, look for a local bus or shared taxi (service) that heads towards the mountains. Inform the driver that you want to go to the Kahlil Gibran Museum. The bus will drop you off near the museum, and it's just a short walk to the entrance. The fare is approximately 2,000 LBP.
Walking

From the central square of Bsharri, head north on the main road. Walk for about 1 kilometer, approximately 15-20 minutes. Look for signs directing you to the museum. The walk is scenic and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

The Kahlil Gibran Museum, located in Gibran's hometown of Bsharri, is a tribute to the life and works of the famous Lebanese-American poet, artist, and philosopher. The museum is housed in the Monastery of Mar Sarkis, a historic building that dates back to the 7th century when it served as a hermitage for monks. By the end of the 17th century, Carmelite monks began constructing a new monastery, completing it in 1862. Gibran later purchased the monastery in 1926 with the vision of it becoming his final resting place and a space to exhibit his work. Gibran's dream was realized when his sister Mariana bought the monastery and surrounding lands, fulfilling his wish to be buried there. Founded in 1935, the museum's collection includes over 440 of Gibran's original paintings and drawings, as well as his manuscripts, personal belongings, and furniture from his New York studio. The exhibits are displayed throughout the monastery's 16 rooms, leading to Gibran's tomb. Visitors can explore Gibran's artistic evolution, from his early academic studies to his later, more symbolic works. The museum also provides insight into Gibran's life, showcasing his notebooks, personal library, and correspondence. A spring within the museum is called “The Prophet’s Spring” after his famous book, and visitors can drink from it. The surrounding grounds offer stunning views of the Qadisha Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, adding to the museum's serene atmosphere.
