Discover more about Puntuko brolis

Puntuko Brolis, nestled in the Pašventupys village of Anykščiai District, is a captivating geological and historical landmark. Situated in the Pienionys Forest, near the Šventoji River, this impressive boulder is the second-largest stone in the Anykščiai region. While called the 'brother' of the larger Puntukas stone, it is of different origin but still a sight to behold. The stone's dimensions are noteworthy, measuring 6 meters in length, 4 meters in width, and 1.7 meters in height. Emerging from the earth like a massive, slumbering beast, the stone is partially hidden by the surrounding spruces and pines. One of its cracked edges gives the impression of an open, petrified mouth. Puntuko Brolis has been recognized for its geological significance since 1964 and as an archeological monument since 1972. The surrounding area also holds historical importance, with the Pašventupys burial mounds located nearby, suggesting the presence of an ancient Lithuanian temple in the vicinity. Writer A. Vienuolis often spoke of this temple, adding to the stone's mystique. According to local legends, the stone plummeted from the sky, embedding itself deep within the earth. Today, Puntuko Brolis lies within the Anykščiai Regional Park, specifically in the Anykščiai Pinewood Landscape Reserve, inviting visitors to explore its natural and historical allure.
