Car

From the center of Sava, head southwest on Route Nationale 5 (RN5) for about 30 kilometers. You will pass through several small villages along the way. Keep an eye out for signs directing you towards Savako. When you reach the town of Antalaha, make a right turn onto Route Nationale 12 (RN12) and continue for approximately 10 kilometers. You will see signs for Savako as you approach the mountain area. Parking may be limited, so consider arriving early.

Public Transportation

To reach Savako via public transportation, start at the main bus station in Sava. Take a bush taxi (taxi-brousse) heading towards Antalaha. The fare is typically around 5,000 MGA (Malagasy Ariary). After about an hour, disembark at Antalaha. From there, you can either take another bush taxi towards the nearby villages or hire a local guide who can assist you in reaching the foot of Savako. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, which may range from 10,000 to 20,000 MGA depending on the distance.

Hiking

Once you arrive at the base of Savako, you will need to hike to the peak. It is advisable to hire a local guide for safety and to navigate the trails. The hike can take approximately 2-4 hours depending on your fitness level. Bring plenty of water and snacks for the journey. Guides usually charge around 20,000 MGA for their services, and it is recommended to arrange this in advance.
