The Scenic Perkins Cove Drawbridge: A Coastal Jewel

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the center of Ogunquit, head south on Shore Road. Continue walking straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Route 1. You should see a sign for Perkins Cove. Turn left onto Route 1 and continue walking for about 0.3 miles. As you approach Perkins Cove, you will see signs directing you to the cove area. Once you reach Perkins Cove, follow the path down to the waterfront where the Perkins Cove Drawbridge is located.

• Biking

  From Ogunquit Village, you can rent a bike and head towards Perkins Cove. Start by cycling south on Shore Road for approximately 0.5 miles. At the intersection with Route 1, turn left and continue on the bike lane along Route 1 for about 0.3 miles. Look for the signs for Perkins Cove, and follow the bike-friendly path that leads you directly to the picturesque area. Once you arrive at Perkins Cove, park your bike and walk toward the drawbridge for a great view.

• Public Transport

  While Ogunquit has limited public transportation, you can take the local trolley service that operates during the summer months. Board the trolley at any of the designated stops in Ogunquit and request to get off at Perkins Cove. The trolley will drop you off near the entrance to Perkins Cove, from which you can easily walk to the drawbridge. Be sure to check the trolley schedule for the most accurate times.

• Boat

  If you're feeling adventurous, consider taking a kayak or paddleboard from nearby rental shops in Ogunquit. Launch your kayak from Ogunquit Beach and paddle along the coastline towards Perkins Cove. It’s approximately a 1-mile paddle depending on your starting point, and you will enjoy stunning views of the coast. As you approach Perkins Cove, keep an eye out for the drawbridge, and make sure to follow any local boating regulations.
