Car
If you are driving, head to the nearest major city in Central Region, which is Lilongwe. From Lilongwe, take the M1 highway heading south towards Zomba. After approximately 60 kilometers, take the exit towards Salima. Continue on the road for about 20 kilometers until you reach the town of Salima. From Salima, follow the signs to the lakeshore and continue driving along the shore road until you reach the coordinates G5QH+J9F, where Bana Beach is located. Ensure you have local currency for any tolls or fees along the route.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, start by taking a minibus from Lilongwe to Salima. These minibuses leave regularly from the main bus station in Lilongwe. The journey to Salima takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, and fares are typically around 1,500 MWK. Once you arrive in Salima, you can hire a local taxi or find a shared taxi (also known as a 'chibuku') to take you to Bana Beach. The taxi ride should take about 30 minutes, and expect to pay around 2,000 MWK for the trip.
Taxi
For a more direct route, you can also hire a private taxi from Lilongwe directly to Bana Beach. This option is more expensive, with fares typically ranging from 25,000 MWK to 30,000 MWK depending on negotiation and the taxi service. The journey will take approximately 2 hours. Ensure you agree on a price before starting your trip.
