From Chinteche, head south on the M5 road towards Nkhata Bay. After approximately 25 kilometers, you will reach a junction where you need to turn left onto the B6 road. Continue for about 5 kilometers until you see signs for Nkhata Bay. Follow the signs to the Ilala Ferry Port, which is located near the waterfront in Nkhata Bay. There are parking facilities available near the port, but be prepared to pay a small fee for parking.
Public Transportation
Start at the main bus station in Chinteche. Look for a minibus heading to Nkhata Bay. The fare is generally affordable, around MWK 1,000 to MWK 2,000 (Malawian Kwacha). The journey will take approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the Nkhata Bay minibus station, you can walk to the Ilala Ferry Port, which is about a 10-minute walk. Just follow the signs towards the waterfront.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Chinteche to Ilala Ferry Port. This option will be more expensive, typically costing around MWK 10,000 to MWK 15,000. The taxi ride will take about 30 minutes, and the driver will drop you off directly at the ferry terminal.
