Getting There

Walking
Start from the center of Salima, near the Salima Market. Head east on the main road, which is known as the M5. Continue walking straight for about 4 kilometers until you reach the fork in the road. At the fork, take the left path that leads towards Chimutu. This path will take you through some local villages, so be prepared for some foot traffic. After approximately 1.5 kilometers, you will see a sign for Thuma Forest Reserve on your right. Follow that road for another 2 kilometers until you reach the entrance of the reserve.

Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Salima. Begin your journey at the Salima Market and head east along the M5 road. You will follow the same route as the walking directions. After about 4 kilometers, at the fork in the road, take the left towards Chimutu. Continue for approximately 1.5 kilometers until you see the sign for Thuma Forest Reserve on your right. Cycle along that road for another 2 kilometers until you reach the entrance of the reserve.

Public Transport
Look for a local minibus (often referred to as a 'chibuku bus') heading towards Chimutu from the main bus station in Salima. Board the minibus and inform the driver that you are going to Thuma Forest Reserve. The ride will take about 30 minutes. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest point to the entrance of the reserve. From there, you may have to walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach the main entrance.
